  • Will I receive certification for peersWALK™?

Yes! After completing the live facilitated training, you will be invited to complete a knowledge check (questions), and on successful completion, you will instantly receive certification.

  • What is Situational Suicide Prevention?

Situational Suicide Prevention acknowledges the distress of your peer rather than automatically assuming mental illness or disorder, with suicide thoughts (though in some cases the two are linked). It responds to significantly challenging experiences of mind. This includes thoughts, emotions, sensations, or behaviours, associated with an inability to compensate for a distressing event, such as: bereavement, relationship breakdown, change in health status, natural disasters, pandemics, financial, or occupational difficulties. This distress may significantly overlap with many of the symptoms usually taken to suggest mental ‘illness’ or ‘distress’.

  • Is peersWALK™ based on lived experience?

Yes. Parents Beyond Breakup (PBB), who bring you the peersWALK™ Situational Suicide Prevention Training, have been facilitating peer support programs since 1999 - all with lived experience facilitators. PBB has been awarded Suicide Prevention Australia’s NSW LiFE Award fro Excellence in Suicide Prevention for Priority Populations, recognising the organisation’s leadership in saving more men from suicide. peersWALK™ was designed and commissioned by the lived-experience team at PBB, for community based Peers Engaging Each other Responding to Suicide and situational distress (P.E.E.R.S).
